Urinary Diseases

The urinary system produces, stores and eliminates urine - the fluid waste excreted by the kidneys. The urinary system includes kidneys, ureters, bladder, sphincter muscles and the urethra. Adults eliminate about 1.5 liters of urine per day, depending on the amount of fluid consumed. Estimates indicate that diseases of the kidney and urinary tract account for approximately 830,000 deaths annually.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Enlargement of Prostate gland. More than half of men in their sixties exhibit symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy. As men grow older, the prostate continues to grow which can result in urine flow obstruction. Changes in the balance of sex hormones might be another reason. Prostate gland enlargement symptoms include - weak urine stream, difficulty in starting urination, dribbling at the end of urination, frequent urination, straining while urinating, blood in the urine, urinary tract infection etc. Having an enlarged prostate doesn't increase the risk of prostate cancer. Men with a total PSA level greater than 10ng/ml in the blood might be at risk; you just need to continue regular prostate exams.
